simple box construction ::: update fall 2013

::: well, well, well. it is about time to bring forth some news. let's begin with the 7" from cooper cult records. it is out and has been available for a week or so from the label. the rumor is that it is going real fast. simple box construction is expecting very few number of copies, most of which, if not all, are spoken for already. act fast if you want one. look here to order directly from cooper cult. all artwork and layout for this release is being done by russian artist, anya kuts and you can check out her work here. listen to an excerpt from this very limited 7" below.



::: next up is the exclusive track for the samhainwork II compilation from heathen harvest. this compilation features exclusive tracks from many outstanding artists and it is an honor to stand among them. the compilation will be available as a free download from heathen harvest on october 25th 2013. check out a preview for the album here. the A DEATH CINEMATIC track for this compilation is entitled, THE ORANGE GLOW OF THE CITIES BENEATH THE BILLOWING SKIES. you can check out the full song title / poem at slumbering in the fires.


::: next up: the delayed t shirts. the THINE SAVING GRACE (SBC - 018) t shirts are done and ready to ship but it wasn't enough to just get them done and shipped. there was the great idea of making a limited ep and shipping it for free with every t shirt order. so now the t shirts are delayed so i can finish and ship the ep. (more on the ep below.) as it stands simple box construction has two extra medium size t shirts and they are first come first serve. so get in touch if you want one of them. if there are no takers then they will be posted in the simple box construction shop.



::: the surprise ep that is to be shipped with the t shirts is called: THE NIGHT OF OUR SORROW HAS FALLEN, WE REMAIN WITHOUT LIGHT IN OUR EYES (SBC - 019). it is titled after one of the tracks from the forthcoming A DEATH CINEMATIC full length album (more below). other tracks on the ep are: DEATH FOR AERONAUT, the 24 minute single take/ single track recorded practice session for the first A DEATH CINEMATIC live show. And an older unreleased track, THE BLACK CLOUD AND THE HERO'S HEART, which was originally going to be on the next album but was cut because it no longer fit thematically. this ep is strictly limited to an edition of 25 copies with more than half going to t shirt orders, the rest will be available from the simple box construction shop once all orders have shipped. ::: and now a few words about the next A DEATH CINEMATIC full length album titled ...AND THE BIRDS OF DEATH... (SBC - 020). production has begun on the packaging and tracks for this album. this will be the most ambitious simple box construction release for A DEATH CINEMATIC thus far. without giving too much away just yet but the album will be housed in custom hand made wooden trays. more information and production preview photos can be viewed on the A DEATH CINEMATIC facebook page.




::: in addition to all this simple box construction is finishing up the A PARABLE... (SBC - 007) edition and THE NEW WORLD (SBC - 011) and PRELUDE TO THE NEW WORLD (SBC - 012) editions. other editions and projects that were on hold will be revived and look for some exclusive track and artwork contributions to zines and other publications. as well as some split and collaborative projects. thank you for reading and until next time, diy or die.

simple box construction ::: the first and very late update of 2013

::: i've done it again, many months have passed and very few words were posted. until now. simple box construction and a death cinematic have been extremely busy reading, writing, recording, cutting, printing, folding, glueing, assembling, drawing, thinking, making noise, corresponding with labels, planing the next few releases and shooting pictures. then there is the rest of the everyday life things that need taking care of. below you will find info and details on all the new things coming up and out.


::: first, simple box construction has alway set its prices with post paid except in the stores that require the setting of a postage fee i.e. the storeenvy and bandcamp shops. those prices were always adjusted so that the cost of the album plus the mandatory shipping charge equaled the original post paid price. the objective has always been to keep the costs as reasonable as possible no matter how labor intensive the physical releases are to make. it is with great pain that i had to raise the prices of my releases. the latest shipping hike from the u.s. postal services was just too much. for the past several years i have absorbed all the increases but now it is just impossible. international customers are the most effected i have tried to keep the increase to a minimum and in fact i have decided to absorb a portion of it. this has never been a profitable endeavor and all this means is that less money goes to making the physical copies of future releases and more to the mismanaged postal service. thank you for understanding and your continued support.

speaking of 7"s, there are plans for another one if not two more this year. details about those will be shared as things get finalized. all i can say is that one will be a split and released by simple box construction. keep tuning in.


::: recently i had the necessity and opportunity to reshoot almost all the simple box construction and a death cinematic releases. this includes all the in print and out of print stuff i did. the photos came out much better than expected so i decided to update all the shops and former posts with the new item images.

::: still doing a lot of pencil/ graphite drawings, one of which will be a t shirt for inherent records. it should be available shortly. the drawings are just another way to work out potential ideas and hone in some skill. they usually start off as scribbles and after a while forms, lights and shadows, and themes start to emerge and make something recognizable. that's when the rest of the image gets fleshed out. click to enlarge the examples below.

::: as we are talking about t shirts, soon simple box construction will be posting the details on how to order the SAVING GRACE t shirt. it is going to be a made to order t shirt run and it will be screened in house. the idea is to make only as many t shirts as are ordered. this way the t shirt is available but i am not tying up much needed resources in buying bulk runs and sitting on inventory. i also get to expand my screen printing experience. orders for the shirt will be taken for a limited time and once the ordering is closed simple box will run only the shirts that were ordered. there is no plans on running extra or reprinting at a later time. the design for this t shirt is from a scratch board drawing i did for the ekca liena split, PRETERNATURAL, that was out on small doses records. both parties have graciously agreed to allow simple box construction to use it as an a death cinematic t shirt.






::: another program that simple box construction is planing on unveiling after the new album comes out is a way for fans to purchase inexpensively small collections of original photographs. the images will be available singly and as mix and match custom printed photo packs of 5, 10, or 15 images. each set of images will come in a hand made and printed photo pack made to order with a poem written based on the selected images. more details will be coming in the next few weeks. in addition to this some older simple box projects that were put on hold will also be revived.



::: and finally... simple box construction has been working tirelessly on the packaging for the cassette full length due to be out on 3.15.13 through tyco magnetic anomalies. a death cinematic facebook followers have seen photos of the fabrication process and progress. there is no pre order for this release and simple box construction will only have 15 or so copies for sale. promotional copies taken from the limited edition of 60 will be mailed ASAP hopefully in time to get reviews before march 15th. details for ordering and availability, as well as a full description of the release, will be posted shortly. be on the lookout for track premiers on only the most reputable underground and diy sites. as this release is getting close to its release date, it should be mentioned that a death cinematic has recorded a ton of material for the next album and a series of forthcoming split releases. the design and layout for the next a death cinematic album to be released by simple box construction is already germinating and will go into full swing once the mastering is complete. so there is a lot to look forward to this coming year but first the CORROSIONS OF TRAVELED DAYDREAMS cassette full length.

simple box construction ::: spring update

::: so THE NEW WORLD has been out for a little while and things are moving along. here are some things that have been going on and some things that will be happening in the near future.

::: the new world has seen its share of reviews all of which can be found on the reviews page. there are still a few sites that will hopefully review it. keeping up with orders has been a bit of a challenge since the covers are so labor intensive and are not all yet complete. however, all orders are caught up now and the covers are being finished up continuously so orders can go out immediately. also the album will be available at some online distributors too. simple box construction/ a death cinematic did a massive interview with heathen harvest. the first part of the interview can be found here and the second part, discussing the finer details of THE NEW WORLD should be posted on their site soon. it will also be posted here on the interviews page along with all the other interviews.


::: new developments are in the works and here is a short overview of things to look forward to. simple box construction is working on a small video for a track off THE NEW WORLD which features the images form the PRELUDE TO THE NEW WORLD book. this should be out very soon. since now there is a collection of videos for a few a death cinematic tracks, simple box construction will be adding a video page to this site to help archive them and have them available for viewing in one place.

::: mixing and mastering of tracks will begin this week, not just for the new album (from simple box) but also for a cassette release on Tycho Magnetic Anomalies. details on this will be made available as things get closer to completion. shortly after that or maybe even during, a death cinematic will start recording some work for a vinyl split, a long play single and some other splits and collaborations.

::: on a final note, in order to help raise some funds for some of the forthcoming projects simple box construction will be posting some prints for sale in the next post. there are some artist proofs and some full size, full color prints that are available. full and detailed descriptions with images as well as ways to order the prints will be included in the next post. those who are connected on facebook have already seen previews of the prints and some of the new artwork, drawings, and photography that simple box construction has been working on. to view some of the artwork you can check out the photo album here. more to come soon.

SBC - 011 and SBC - 012 ::: the new world (cd) and prelude to the new world (book)

::: SBC - 011 and SBC - 012 at long last simple box construction presents THE NEW WORLD full length cd and PRELUDE TO THE NEW WORLD hand-bound book of photos. in essence this is two releases in one that are meant to compliment each other. the premium quality taiyo yuden cdr was printed in-house and features just under an hour worth of music. the book was also entirely printed and stamped in house and features 22 photographs and stamped artwork. both are limited to an edition of hand numbered 150 copies and are entirely hand made. each copy includes both items with corresponding edition numbers. all art work, photos, design and layout by simple box construction/ a death cinematic. preview the album in its entirety here.

::: SBC - 011 THE NEW WORLD (cd) and packaging. this release was recorded between winter 2009 and fall 2010. all sounds improvised from guitar, amp, and effects pedals. the monologue was recorded by Matt Finney and arranged by a death cinematic. THE NEW WORLD text was written and read by Matt Finney. PRELUDE TO THE NEW WORLD text which makes up the track titles was written by a death cinematic. each printed cd comes in a brown, hand printed envelope. the cd and book come in a hand made balsa wood and western red cedar veneer box/ gatefold. the covers consists of heavy weight printing paper with hand printed text and images, housed in a hand made vellum slip sleeve. all covers and vellum sleeves were cut and scored by hand and printed at the simple box construction studio. more detail images can be viewed in the simple box construction album for this release. for reviews of this release please go here.

::: SBC - 012 (book). this is a small format hand made version of a previously released very limited larger book of the same title (SBC - 013). all the pages were scored, folded and cut by hand, printed on bright white paper and stitched together. the horse stamp was drawn and designed by simple box construction and is based on a drawing entitled THOU ART THE HOPES SLAIN BY THE HANDS OF OUR ENTERPRISE. each page in the book was hand stamped. the stamping process ultimately destroyed the stamp as with each page the stamp was altered and cut away. each book is hand-bound in acid free brown charcoal paper and black linen tape. all the covers were also hand cut and stamped. more detail images can be viewed in the simple box construction album for this release.
